Perhaps.  Maybe also, as in "losing one's faculties", a talent, ability 
or discipline.

Whether student or professor, a request for a school name went 
unanswered.  There is clearly a language failure here, and probably a 
cultural one.  This is not a single Egyptian-English translation 
problem, though, but a series of impolite demands by several autonomous 
individuals - unless they are guided to ask for help in this manner by 
an instructor.

My read is that these guys truly expect to be given what is somehow 
rightfully theirs and resent the inconvenient time-consuming resistance 
they've encountered.
