I LOVE assembly but with a PIC it's murder. AVR asm is a lot better. >and i just happen to know C. C on a PC is not the same as C in a micro controller, but if you know the language then you life will be a bit easier. However I would suggest that you select ONE C compiler brand and work with that. winAvr (gcc) is free and integrates with Avrstudio. Codevision, Imagecraft and IAR all give out a code size limited of their compilers. With Imagecraft you can get a full 30 days version which reverts to a 4K version if you don't buy the licence. Most of the application notes from Atmel are written with IAR. Codevision is the least expensive to buy, for some it's the best. But I guess everyone has their bias. >I just want to get somthing printed out or a book that will give me the >rudiments. Choose a chip and study the data sheet, once you understand one avr you will know them all. >Besides, im only after getting the cable for my "my Avr" >development board. Just a note of warning. If you want to do some work with AVRs I would recommend you buy an Atmel programming tool. Many, many people kill their chips with "cheap" programmers. And finally http://www.avrbeginners.net/ has some beginner's stuff, asm and C. ....now what was the original question..??
