JTAGICEmkII connector

2009-01-12 by Steven Hodge

I just finished successfully switching over from ISP programming a board to
JTAG programming of it (I built both connectors into it). It took a bit of
bashing of AVR Studio to get it to work, but so it goes.

Anyway, to form the physical connection from the JTAGICEmkII I had to use
the "squid cable" that came with it, after carefully confirming the pin-outs
with the Atmel JTAGICEmkII manual. There was no adapter cable provided to
go easily from the 10-pin female on the flex cable to my 10-pin male header
on my board, whereas there was such an 6-pin adapter cable provided for the
ISP connection.

Needless to say, using the squid cable is a pain so I would like to make up
a permanent ribbon cable adapter to replace the squid cable, which sounds
like it should be very easy to do. But after searching the Mouser and
DigiKey websites and tediously paging through their paper catalogs, I'll be
darned if I can find the necessary connector, namely the one that is on the
end of the squid cable, the 10-pin shrouded male pin "quickie" ribbon cable
connector. I can find lots of females, but no males.

Can anybody supply me with a p/n for it? The exact same thing that is on
the end of the squid cable that Atmel provides with the JTAGICEmkII?

Thanks, Steve

(PS, I have this funny feeling I'm going down a path many of you have
already gone down.)
