This is a good approach with most things. The best solution at any moment in time is often some combination of ideas from a variety of knowledgeable and talented people. The big hurdle is often getting everyone involved to check their egos at the door so various options can be objectively considered and the most appropriate identified. I was the technical manager of a group of engineers at one job. It amazed me to no end at how zealous various software developers were at defending their own vision of how braces should be placed in C source code and what conventions should be used to name variables. No one was "wrong" per se, just different and unwilling to change unless forced. Fortunately for me, our largest customer mandated a certain format at one point and individual preference went out the window. "He who has the gold makes the rules." Tim
