Hi Tim, Yeah, I spotted that very same question and thought the answer simply jumped around the real answer. This all seems to be a grey area and there is no definite answer on their website. In fact, it is impossible to determine if you need this just to have the hardware present. I have no plans to show any kind of reference to SD in my product or even have external access to it and I can't find any information as to whether I need a license or not? Very confusing. Dave. You do not need to join the association just to sell a product using the card. They are rather naughty about this on the SD association website. In their FAQ http://www.sdcard.org/developers/faq/#licenseforhosts: Q: Does my company need to obtain a license to sell a product that hosts the SD card? A: Yes, the license required to use the logo is the HALA license. Which doesn't answer the question at all.
