Not familiar with Jaycar "webserver" but certainly, any "real" webserver will do more than smtp! Does it not do udp or anything like that? If it is the one I found ( SD / MMC Card Webserver In a Box ) , the catalog says http, ftp, smtp CLIENT, dns CLIENT, RS232 serial port. So, it is NOT an smtp server, it is a client. Send an e-mail to it, and have it send an RS232 message. Should work fine with any AVR board with a serial port I would also suggest that it is very likely that ANY web device will take a lot of "software configuration", no matter what the protocol.
