It has been reported that the ECROS Technology STK500 JTAG Adapter does not work with the STK500/ATmega162 combination. This is because the STK500 adapter was designed for the ATmega16 and ATmega32. The ATmega162 pins out the JTAG interface on different port bits. This does not affect the AVR ICE-Cube itself. It will work with the ATmega162 (although I don't have one to prove this). The problem is with the free adapter that lets you connect a JTAG ICE interface to the STK500, which does not come with a JTAG port. If you have an ATmega162 in your own system and have correctly pinned out the JTAG interface, the ICE-Cube will work. The STK500 adapter can be modifed to work with the STK500/ATmega162 combination by cutting four traces and adding four wires. I will see if the person reporting the problem wants to try this and report back. In the meantime, although the ICE-Cube will work with any JTAG- enabled Atmel MCU, the STK500 adapter supplied with it is for the ATmega16 and ATmega32 only. Graham. http://www.ecrostech.com
