Double check your hardware by using Avr-dude to
attempt the download.

I am tyring to get PonyProg2000 working to do ISP on an ATmega16 using an
Olimex AVR-PG1B serial dongle.
Any pony command I issue results in "Device missing or unknown device
(-24)". I've tried erase, read, write, you name it. I have selected the
proper ATmega16 target in the Device menu.
I am hoping that someone with more experience can point me towards the
next troubleshooting steps I should try. The following is a description
of my situation....
I can confirm that my ATmega16 and the circuit its in is correct. I am
able to successfully use both the ISP6PIN and ISP10PIN ports on my STK500
and AVRStudio to program the chip in my external circuit.
So this leads me to believe that my hardware setup is good but I have not
configured PonyProg2000 correctly. I did do the calibration with no other
stuff running on my PC. I have tried a variety of different settings on
the Interface Setup menu, with no change in behavior.
The only thing I would consider "wacky" about my setup is that I only have
USB ports, so I'm connecting the AVR-PG1B to my USB via a Belkin
USB->Serial adapter. BUT, I use that adapter for everything (such as the
STK500 tests mentioned above, also I've done UART connections to AVR
through that guy, etc...), so I do not think the adapter is the problem.
The problem COULD also be my brand new Olimex dongle, but I dont know how
to confirm that other than by getting PonyProg to work (kind of like
chicken and egg).
Does anybody have any advice for additional troubleshooting steps?
Ethan
