When I started out with Olimex AVR prototype boards I too purchased the AVR-PG1B serfial port dongle. Tried to get Pony-Prog to work with it. Never actually got it to work before I fried it. Then I built my own parallel port dongle. For me this has the benefit of freeing up my only serial port on my PC for use with RS-232 communications. Using the STK500 ISP10PIN connector connected to the 10 pin connector on the Olimex PCB, you should be able to do 10 pin ISP on those and other 10 pin ISP boards. After I wrote the above I checked it out. I sent serial info to an STK500. From the STK500 ISP10PIN connector to an Olimex AVR-P40B-8515 10 pin ISP connector. I used both CodeVisionAVR C compiler and AVR Studio 3.56.
