Hi,
Not to take away from embedded creations device mentioned by Brian, but just for comparisons sake, I thought I’d mention something I spotted on avrfreaks forum earlier. http://www.mcuproshop.com/ for the price (34USD) I thought I’d give one a try, It doesn’t appear to have a cover, so is a little exposed, but I can look past that for now, and free shipping as well.
I have no affiliation etc etc, just thought I’d pass on info like Brian has.
Cheers,
/~darren

Subject: [AVR-Chat] Embedded
Creations' SP Duo
Hi,
I haven't seen anything posted here about this
device so I thought I'd
direct folks over to Embedded Creatoins to check
out their SP Duo AVR
programmer:
http://www.embedded-creations.com/spduo/overview.htm
I've recently tried one of these out and it is
very cool. I use
AVRDUDE of course, but any programmer that
supports the STK500 should
work with it. The unique thing about this
programmer is that it uses
the STK500 programming protocol, however, it can
program using either
the serial ISP method or the JTAG interface.
I thought that was
pretty slick.
So you actually get two programmers in one, and
two ways to program
which can be convenient if you accidentally change
your fuse bits in a
way that locks you out of programming on one
interface but not the
other.
Also, it is FAST! About 3x faster than a
typical Atmel AVRISP
programmer.
For $50, I think is a good buy. BTW, I am
not in any way affiliated
or associated with Embedded Creations - I just
like their product.
