There's something new coming.. AVR32 with STK-1000

16 registers in the register file, hardware context switching with some 
number of mirrored registers.  Four levels of interrupt priority, 64 
interrupt groups, and 32 lines per group (that's a LOTTA ISRs!)

Instructions for moving blocks of registers.
32 bit barrel shifter.
Data and code cacheing.


Chips not for a few months according to the article in Electronic 
Design. Java support, Possibly built-in ethernet controllers.
STK1000, with studio, GCC, linux 2.6 kernel, IAR's EWAVR32

Looks like interesting on-chip debug support too.
