Why don't you just learn C?

Personally, I use the Imagecraft V7ADV compiler ( www.imagecraft.com ). They
have a demo that works to 4K (that is a lot of code) and doesn't cost for
personal use. The whole compiler isn't that expensive. You can get your feet
wet in C and your performance will improve and be able to do embedded code
for the long haul
