I'm also aware of a fair bit of "free" and low cost FAT16 code (EFSL, 
etc.). It's the integration of USB flash drive accessibility, 
preferably with an AVR processor, that I'm after.

There are other solutions apart from the Cypress SL811HS (Philips 
chips, etc.). Cypress also have the CY7C67200 & 300 host mode chips, 
but on the minus side, one of them has a 48 FBGA package, and the 
other a 100 TQFP package - not an insurmountable problem, but 
certainly a consideration.

BTW, It is Cypress (not Cyprus as I originally wrote!)
