Re: [AVR-Chat] Serial port monitor

2006-04-28 by Roy E. Burrage

Thanks Larry. The monitor is actually what we need at this time to debug comms between a dedicated system that's no longer supported by the manufacturer and the peripheral equipment we're replacing. And since most of us make our living from our work product, paying for software should never be a problem.

Thanks for the guidance. Now if I can just get that Jarhead to subscribe to the list...

Do you want a terminal or a monitor? I use Sermon (hhdssoftware.com serial port monitor) and it is great, but it does cost ~$60 for the basic version. I use Tera term for my terminal. It is old free-ware but works very well on Com1-4. You can get a free 30 day trial of sermon which was enough for me to debug protocol. But I bought it anyway since it worked so well.

Hyperterm is an amazing embarrassment; it is so bad! Why they keep shipping that with windows is beyond me.

Does anyone know of a good serial port monitor program? Hyperterminal seems to be problematic.

Any assistance would be appreciated.
