Passive parallel dongles must be short (the cable), I don't remember 
exactly, maye max 30cm.
Also, in AVRdude U must have the pinout specified in the config file.

  Ok, I have managed to build a few of the internet AVRISP dongles in an 
attempt to have a ISP cable that works right, as the Kanda one I have for 
the STK300 dev board is one of the unreliable ones. Each design I have made 
has not worked for various reasons, usually having to do with no connection 
established between hard and software. I have tried each under PonyProg, 
AVRStudio4, and AVRDude a coupld of times too. Pony prog doesn't seem to 
support alot of devices, such as the attiny45 and/or the Mega16 I have in 
designs underway. I can flash the Kanda STK300 board, but that has never 
been the issues, the issue is to get a platform that is stable and can load 
the attiny45 and/or the mega16. So, please can someone who has already been 
through all this crap send a link or something to a proven performer that 
will definatly work with the attiny45!!??

  I am fairly sure that I have the software end covered by now, I have 
downloaded so many loaders and programmer softwares now that I will be able 
to sort something out. I like the AVRDude because it seems like it is a 
right fit for what I am trying to accomplish, supports the tiny45, it is 
just the dongle that I need to get sorted out, so if the submitted design is 
proven with AVRDude then that is right what I am seeking!!

  Among some of the articles I have been reading on the subject, I came 
across something stating that the dongles each have a pin which is used to 
recognise the device targeted, and that the stk300 dongle will not recognise 
the tinyavr devices because of different placement of this pin on the 
dongles(models). Is this true and my STK300 dongle is no good for tinyAVR 
devices but only megaAVR's? If so where can I get the design for a tinyAVR 
dongle??? I thought for sure that by just taking out the Mega103L from the 
socket of the STK300 dev board, swapping in a bunch of jumper wires over to 
my breadboard containing the attiny45 would be a sure fire way to get the 
device loaded, and quick! Perhaps this is the reason why that didn't work 
out?? Help
