CAN - anyone using it

I'd like to use an AT90CAN or AT91SAM7X device to monitor a vehicle ODB 
connector, and log the "Oil Pressure", or similar stuff.

Has anyone done this, and/or does anyone know of any GPL code I can use 
to start from?
