I don't have something that wouldn't need modifying, but I think the 
original application stores the name you input (for badge mode) in that 
external chip.

You can either get the real original from Atmel, or a GCC version from... 
someplace on the web.

Ah, good point.  I don't use it so I don't know.  Mine could be toast now...
If you have a sample program that you would like me to try I would be
willing to do so and let you know if works or not.
