Raissonance has an 8051 compiler with support for the 2051/4051 series.  
The free version is limited to 4K - perfect for use with the 2051.  I do 
a lot of serial work with my controllers, the Raissonance R-Kit has an 
emulator that has a simulation terminal window allowing you to test UART 
code.
