avr-gcc is available for linux. That includes avr-as which is the assembler.

avrdude works with the dragon - I still need to try it out with my dragon.

I use both my avrisp and avrisp mkII under linux with avrdude.

I haven't used any JTAG stuff with the AVR (under windows or linux),
