About my STK-500 running too hot on a 12 volt (regulated) rail: It has been sitting on the desk running the Switches & LEDS sample program that ships with it, with all the LEDS illuminated, for over 72 hours continuously, and the regulators and bridge rectifier are barely warm to the touch. Maybe your units are older, and of the older design. Unlike the older STK-500s, the newer ones come with an ATmega8535 and an ATtiny2313, as opposed to an AT90S8515 and an AT90S1200 soldered to the PCB. Perhaps Atmel redeisgned the power stages to have more oomph, at the same time? tom (Oh,. I **FINALLY** got things running. My errors were multiple, and stupid (as I suspected all along *sigh*) Thanks to one and all for your assistance./ tom
