Of course it all depends on how and where the chips get programmed...... >I must say that I nearly always spec Atmel devices, Just as well you don't spec the "POPULAR" 68HC05 or 68HC11, try to get a pin compatible device there after billions on chips were sold and who knows how many products were designed around them.
