A keygen to do what exactly? To steal someone's software?

but I bet the vendor monitors this list and will be taking a close
look at our friend... heh heh heh.

maybe there's an intelligence test in there somewhere.

I Participate on this list as a software/hardware
developer and find the suggestion of stealing software
(Or anything, for that matter...) to be disgusting.

What is the position of the list owner of this group
regarding the exchange of this type of information?

Not favorable. I didn't expect he'd find the waters very friendly here.

Maybe the best thing for our friend to do is not to
advertise the fact that he's using warez. Besides which, I
read on slashdot that a whole bunch of warez sites were shut
down yesterday.

As list owner, I was going to ban the person, but as this is an
internationally list and the person has a freedom of speech. I think if
the manufacturer IAR systems chooses to prosecute then fine.

I will say publicly as an engineer, I find the use of illegal software
to be disgusting, even when it is a large company. BUT sometimes you
have to use a "borrowed" version of software to properly test it out, I
had a design that I wanted to test in Eagle, to see how well it compared
to Protel 99SE, but the manufacturer did not want to give me a license
to try the professional version (the PCB was 200mm wide by 400mm long 4
layer). So they have lost the sale, if I could have found a professional
version to borrow to try the design, then fine I may have liked it and
chosen to change. So I can see the point of view from both sides of the
fence.

Who knows, One day I may buy Eagle, but right now Protel 99SE works for
the designs I do, and I have invested a lot of time creating custom
footprints and components (hmm not many more AVR's to put in now ;o) But
with the free Version of Eagle being limited to double sided and 3" x 4"
it is not a true test.

Regards,

Kat.

The current version of Orcad works nicely on their demo boards.
When you start working on your own boards, then the warts come out in droves.

I've heard good things about Eagle.
