Tim... You could also check out
http://www.kanda.com/index.php3?cs=1&bc=partno&bw=avrhhp

This shows a range of handheld standalone programmers that we created
and have been selling for the last 5 years, we also have a 9 year old
product called the AVR keyfob. The software is kept up to date with
latest device support, and soon to get USB upload. This programmer is
also available with PICmicro support.

We already have a cheap AVRISP (original AVRISP not the Atmel copy)
which now works as a usb dongle. http://www.kanda.com/go/avrisp-u

Kanda are the original company that created the STK200/300 which by the
way are still for sale and are still the easiest starter kits available,
no mass of lead swaps to support your favourite device types. As the
sockets are available for most types.

I hate the yahoogroups mails, how the hell do you edit them to remove
the ads, Grrrr!

You should have signed up to the group taking the non-html option.

Nice to know you are around. I did look at your keyfob
a few weeks ago and got confused unfortunately :(

A couple of comments. I NEVER used 10 pins ISP connectors,
only 6 pin type for the past 8 years or so. Don't want to
buy or use an adaptor as it is a waste of money as far as
I'm concerned, the world seems to have passed by the 10 pin
ISP stuff, will you be doing a 6 pin ISP type of keyfob?

Mention of parallel port for anything apart from a printer
gives me goose bumps with modern computers, do I really need
to plug something into my (now almost obsolete) parallel port
in order to download stuff into the keyfob? Do I really need to
shell out for an otherwise unused starter kit in order to load
code into the keyfob?

Does the keyfob do lock bits and fuses as well as flash and eeprom
with just a single button? Your website only says:
"program/verify Flash and EEPROM with a single button press "

No support for chips with more than 64k flash (ie M128)? If a program
uses the full 64K is there still enough room for the eeprom code of
say 4K?

Just some clarifications for myself and possibly others.

We do supply a 6pin adapter, but have never sold it as its never been
that popular. As all our kits use 10pin headers no one really ever
asks for them. So our experience is that 6pin is not as popular as
10pin headers.

I'm working hard on the next USB software release. Also how do you
load code if you don't have a way to load the code. Thats why you need
the starter kit. You can get as many programmers as you like once you
have the programming kit.

Of course.

no, not on the keyfob, but the Handheld programmer supports 256k
devices and full eeprom support. They also have better voltage
protection, can power the target etc. Unfortunately the keyfob has to
be the size it is for now because of the eeprom it uses. But inside
info now... Looks around... I have a 256k keyfob with all the above
ready for USB testing ;)

Oh dear, someone please tell those people at Ateml about that,
they only supply 6 pin headers for their AVISPs and things
like the Dragon. No wonder I and many others, I suppose, were
misled and only used 6 pin header for our boards. LOL

But the one I mentioned in my previous link uses USB to download
files etc. The programmer from PRIIO also doesn't need any extra
bits to work. Perhaps it is time for a rethink on how you do things?

Very successfully I must add.

>the Handheld programmer supports 256k devices and full eeprom support.

Ok I'll keep an eye on things for the future.

Sorry for being a smart ass, but I just got out of bed and the
coffee hasn't reached vital organs yet......
