Off Topic - PIC Programming HELP!!! PIC16C63A CHIP with ICSP & Programmer from JAYCAR

2004-06-02 by Steven Chang-Lin Yu

I have recently purchased the portable PIC programmer from Jaycar, it works fine with the 16F84, however something wrong with the ICSP support!!!

I am currently using the 16C63A, it program ok first time using the ICSP connection, however it doesn't not allow me to reprogram the chip 2nd time, I don't understand why as the programmer's software did say it support 16C63A!!!

If anyone no what wrong with it, please let me know!!!

Hi,

I believe that the PIC16C63A is a OTP (One Time Program) device.
In other words it is ROM based not FLASH.

I'm guessing (despite never using a PIC, but scanning throught the
data sheet now) that the 16C63A is either One Time Programmable
(OTP), at which point, once you've programmed it once, that's it - no
more programming. If your chip has a window on top, you'll need to
erase it with a UV light box.
