Studio wierdness solved?

Studio wierdness solved?

2009-06-03 by Dave VanHorn

As many of you know, I've had a devil of a time with studio over the last several years. I may have solved that problem. (tempting fate here with this email)

The turning point for me, seems to have been installing studio32.

I don't know why, but after that I've only had rare instances of loosing comm with the Jtag ice, and while that's annoying, it's not happening even once a week. Used to be that I couldn't expect more than a couple days of workable use in a row.

I haven't tried uninstalling studio32, and given how windows uninstalls work I wouldn't be surprised if things just kept working.

My theory is that there was some file replaced during the studio32 install that was the root of the problem. I'm still using the same ice, cables, computer, etc as before.

I was thinking of you a few days ago about Studio weirdness.

I thought you might have put a curse on me. :-)

To cut a long story short (about 4 hours of pain), installing,
un-installing Studio, reverting back to V4.14, changing JTAG ice
to RS232 mode instead of USB.... etc. it turned out that I was
trying to run the debugger in "RUN" mode, that is I usually have
a debug mode and a field or run mode. In the non debug mode JTAG
is turned off in software so that I can use the pins for led.

This of course caused mayhem every time I hit a breakpoint or try
to continue from a breakpoint.....One of my walls now has a big hole
where I hit my head several times.

Regards

John Samperi

Ah.. Yes, using those pins for other I/O is a problem.

Sorry, no curses here.
