4-term current sense resistor

4-term current sense resistor

2010-03-30 by Steve Hodge

I have 2 Ohmite LVK series SMT current sense resistors that I was just about
to solder onto a pcb when I realized there are no markings on the actual
part to tell which are the two current terminals ("I" on the data sheet) and
which are the two voltage sense terminals ("V"). I have what appears to be
an ambiguity of 180 degrees in how I place the part. This means the two
pads marked "V" would interchange with the two pads marked "I".

Are the "V" and the "I" pads at each end of the resistor actually connected
together internally so either one can serve as "V" and the other as "I"? It
would seem like this would have to be the case because of the lack of any
orientation marks.

Thanks, Steve

They're symmetric aren't they? In that case you get to choose which
pair are sense and which are load. Cross connecting probably isn't
advised though.
