AVRISP2 for PDI in-chip debugging?

AVRISP2 for PDI in-chip debugging?

2010-09-22 by Steve Hodge

Can the AVR-ISPmkII be used for in-chip debugging over the PDI? The latest
manual in AVR Studio states "AVRISP mkII also supports the PDI interface
(programming only)". Am I correct to interpret this that it does NOT
support in-chip debugging, only the uploading of new program code? And that
the corollary is that to do in-chip debugging you must use JTAG? Thanks,
Steve

The AVRISP has ONLY ever been a programmer, for PDI debugging
you need a JTAG Mk2 or a Dragon for some Xmegas.

Thanks. Just wanted to make sure I needed to bring out a JTAG header on a
new design. Steve
