There are different Arduino boot loaders, these are selected in the Arduino IDE by selecting the board type (Tools -> Board). It may be that you have simply selected the wrong one for your AVR chip. I suggest that if you have selected "Arduino Uno" you try the next one down "Arduino Duemilanova" - or vice versa. Best regards John [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
