Hi Chuck,

I've been very happy with good old CVS.  All of our AVR development
projects, among many others, are under CVS control.  We do frequent backups
of the repository, and the entire repo can even fit on a thumb drive to
carry with you if need be for a little extra peace of mind.

It may not be the most glitzyest thing out there, but it works well and is
easy enough to use.
