Running a atmega16L faster than specified

Running a atmega16L faster than specified

2005-11-06 by Daniel Adolfsson

Hello, I have been lurking here in the shadows absorbing as much
knowledge as I can, learning from other peoples questions and answers,
but I have come up with a question i cant remember anyone asking before.

I have a little project, I have been working on in my spare time, which
I initially planned to power with 3v and thus bought a mega16L.
It seems now that a 3V supply creates more problems than it solves (in
my case) and have switched to 5V.

So here is my question, could i run the mega 16L (spec 8 MHz) at 16 MHz
if i supply it 5 V? or should i stick to 8 MHz even though I need the
extra cycles.

Thank you in advance, this list is very educating and i hope for the
good of mankind :-) that it's being archived at yahoo, it would be a
waste to let so much knowledge end up in /dev/nul
