AVRISP problems.

Hi,
I have two boards, one supporting the AT90S8515/ATMega8515/AT90S2313/AT90S1200 (7.3728 MHz XTAL) and another one which has an ATmega128 (14.31818MHz XTAL) on it. Both boards have a ISP header and I have been using the STK200 Parallel port circuit (http://www.lancos.com/e2p/avrisp-stk200.gif) and PonyProg to program these boards.
I recently got an AVRISP when I registered for the circuit cellar competition. But AVRISP refuses to program any of the chips on both boards. The status window in the AVRISP software shows me the following “Setting device parameters, serial programming mode ..FAILED!”.
Why does this happen? Has anybody faced this problem before? How can I rectify this problem?
