The A6 expression pedal jack is TRS, as is the F2 input. The voltage being attenuated through the pot in the F2 comes from the A6 and returns to it via the same plug. The selector switch on the F2 is for choosing its operational mode, either using a TRS cable, as you would with the A6 expression jack, or as a volume pedal inline between the output of something and an amp. There's no such thing as a mono exp. pedal input, per se. You'd need to have a voltage source. You can use an expression pedal in a modular by, for instance, taking a voltage source like the Doepfer A176 and running it through the pedal in volume pedal mode and into a CV in elsewhere on the modular. FWIW the scaling of the F2 works fine with my CME UF8 MIDI controller keyboard. Why Alesis doesn't subscribe the A6 to the same standards that other expression inputs use is an open question. --Chuck _____ From: Andromeda_A6-ION@yahoogroups.com [mailto:Andromeda_A6-ION@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Eduardo Saponara Sent: Thursday, November 29, 2007 10:42 AM To: andromeda_a6-ion@yahoogroups.com Subject: RE: [Andromeda_A6-ION] Digest Number 469 Hi Russ, Yeah you can make a cable with the ring floating, or just cut the ring cable off of a y cable, it serves the same purpose. I just keep it a y cable and there it is. I think any pedal will work but it is easier if it just has a jack on it rather than an integrated cable, although I guess you could cut the plug off and wire in a mono one with no ring wire connection. I'm curious about the report that the Alesis F2 has a weird usable range with the A6, how was it connected? the exp output is a balanced jack, but it has some kind of selector switch which might do this in addition to just inverting the response or something like that. Anyone with an F2 want to report if the manual states how to use it with a mono exp. pedal input? the FV-500 is cast aluminum, nice weight to it, big with adjustable pedal feel and stereo volume pedal control as well. I quite like it, although I wouldn't have done it if they hadn't dropped it to $65 from $159. I think any pedal can be used just the right cable needs to be made or adapted. The FV-50 looks like it has an integrated cable though. the FV-300 looks pretty good in that it has a jack as well. Ed _______________________________________________________________ Eduardo, Thanks for the input! Sounds like, in lieu of an insert cable, making up a cable with a TRS plug on one end and a mono plug on the other end, with the tip of the mono connected to the tip of the TRS, and the ground of each connected together would do the trick. My guess as to why just using a mono cable doesn't work is the sleeve one the mono plug shorts the sleeve and ring together when plugged into the pedal's jack. I wonder if the FV-50 will work, as well... it'a a little cheaper than the FV-500. Though, I have to say --- the FV-500 looks a lot more sturdy. Is it metal? Thanks!
