Ion vs NL2x

Ion vs NL2x

2003-10-29 by tompaulsen2002

Heyho group,

i was today testdriving the Ion in comparison also a NordLead 2x.

I thought after playing the Ion, that the NL2x sounds warmer,
fatter, more analog...or was my ears playing me a trick? Or is it
just that the Ion presets simply sucks? (yes of course i tweaked
them also...still the NL2x sounded better to me).

Yes the many of the ION's presets suck. But, as an owner of the ION and
the Nord Lead 2 rack (not x), the ION does sound a little bright,
brittle, and digital. The waves are sometimes too perfect. I tell you
what really sounds analog, my Korg MonoPoly, Prophet 600 and Moog Rogue.
There just is no substitute, for real analog. The ION is great for all
the control, in the Mod Matrix, and the many filter types. The ION is
good for it's unique sound, but it is digital and does have aliasing.
Still, for $650 US, it's pretty damn strong.

Peace,
Jimbo

Re: Ion vs NL2x(100% ION Songs)

2003-10-30 by jimbodeluxe2003

Here are some 100 % ION songs, most sounds self-programmed:

Sleepers Awake: I built a slow, nasal string patch and did a pass
with it. Then I took that pass and reversed it and layered it
underneath the forward pass. The forward pass gets reverb and the
 reverse gets delay.

Flame Vision: Named in honor of my town, Los Angeles, currently on
fire. The beginning uses a frequency modulation sound I made with
lots of ION distortion thrown in. Next, a kind of voiced string pad
that gives way to some sequenced stuff with a few leads on top of it.

 Available at Soundclick:

 http://www.soundclick.com/bands/3/osmosisplastiquemusic.htm

 Or at AMPFEA:

 http://www.ampfea.org/files.php?com=i_view&type=2&t=1628

 http://www.ampfea.org/files.php?com=i_view&type=2&t=1627

May the ION allow you to acheive new sonic worlds.
 Peace to you all,
 Jimbo

Thanks Dave, very flattering, no label, just working on getting enough
stuff together for an album. These two pieces are still rough sketches,
though I want to resist the temptation to over-produce. The
www.ampfea.org <http://www.ampfea.org/> site is a cool place to check
out other electronic artist's work. I have gotten some helpful feedback
there.
All the best,
Jimbo

Cool...As far as over-producing, it's good to know that someone out
there still understands that "less" is sometimes "more"...Keep it
up...
