the Andromeda A6 in drum&bass (how well does it handle bass sounds?)

2006-05-20 by Cold Jazz

Hi everyone,

I've been considering investing in a real analogue synth for the
studio (as a compliment to my MS-20 and TeeBee).

I've been looking at the Moog Voyager, the Studio Electronics SE1X and
of course the Andromeda A6.

But my question is, how well does the Andromeda A6 handle bass sounds?
Does it have a fast attack in it's ADSR?

Im mostly after those really nasty bass sounds (bass/lead) you hear in
drum&bass.

If anyone got feedback to share with me, please do! Or if someone has
MP3's of basses, please also share them.

Thanks in advance

/CJ

hi,
ive got an A6, a sunsyn and a se-1 (and an atc-1 as well). every synth has its own charakter and "special talents" for specific kinds of sound.
but for bass my personal favourite is defenitly the se-1. none of the other synths has such punchy, fat, deep and warm bass sound as the se-1 has. i love it.
try to compare them in store...

Hey CJ,
Can only talk to the A6 of the 3 you mentioned, though I do have enough other VA (Virus, Micron, Novation), FM, ROMpler/PCM synths. Of the whole bunch I have, the A6 is tops for bass. The punch is solid (great attack), full of bottom-end support, and overpowering at times (A6's analogue distortion effect is a nice touch as well). I might layer in other synths on the bass line for different harmonic content but filling the bottom end, the A6 is the best of the bunch I have.
My 2-cents...

Hi CJ,

As grnzz knzz (hmmrff lol) stated, each synth has its own character
and their own advantages in the field of basses.
The A6 is great for basses with a very neat grain.
The Virus is great for different distorted basses.
The Q is nice for milky gloomy basses.
Each of these are deep and quality!

My 2 cents...
I know it won't be easy to make a choice with all these nice beasts,
even others i didn't mention. Give a try.
Moreno

good, ruff D&B when I hear it) the Andromeda will handle bass for D&B
really, reall well (there is even a preset on the Andromeda called
Drum&Bass Hoover, Ruuuuuuuuuuuuufagge indeed. In my opinion the
Andromeda exels at warm pad & string sounds plus klonky atmospheres.
Since the ADSR envelopes,(along with the LFO's and effects) are
digital the attacks are fast and biting. Yes the Andomeda is a
hybrid synth, BUT the A6 is analogue where it counts the signal
output (The Oscillators and the Filters) so if ya want a polyphonic
analogue synth, with Nasty sounding bass and leads, give the Andomeda
some thoughts. Tech care from Squareform_909.

Thanks everyone for their answers!

Ill probably have to spend some more time with the A6 in the music
store. But I think I would rather go for the A6 than the Moog Voyager.

I'm not going to buy that many more synths (I think). Before I had
over 12 synths in the studio, which killed my creativity. I rather
have a few very good synths I know really well. But I wouldn't mind a
real analogue synth before I stop investing in synths...

Thanks again
