The "pan" control on our A6 is biased; to center the main output L-R it's necessary to set it to about 9:00 (rather than straight up as one might think). Has anybody else encountered this, or know how to fix it?

might well be that your in/out board is damaged.
Maybe doing a hard reset might fix it
