Orionplayer wanted to know about the VF-1 for bass. Well I have both a GT-6B and a VF-1. I have had the VF-1 for over a year and the GT-6B for about a month. I have to say that I like the GT better for bass as it is tailored for it whereas the VF is a general purpose effects unit. The thing I really like about the GT is the ability to easily modify a sound in real time due to the inclusion of these things called knobs. This coupled with things like the chorus being designed for bass (you can low-pass the audio so that the chorusing only happens above the set frequency and the fundamental is unaffected--this is important as most chorus will cause the most bass to rise and fall in amplitude, which is not good for the low end) and the octaver working and sounding like a real OC-2 which the VF won't do for bass. When I got the VF I was of the mindset that I wanted a rack effects unit and life would be good (I'd been using a Quadraverb--much easier to edit quickly if needed on a gig but too noisy). Now I find the GT to be more useful (though the idiots at Boss should have made the recording/looping function have something more than 3 SECONDS of high quality audio. RAM is cheap!) for live playing, especially when it comes to quickly matching levels during a gig. The fact that you can easily switch effects in and out within a patch is also really nice. I use an FC-200 with the VF and while it can somewhat emulate doing that I find the GT does it better. That's my view on how the two stack up for bass. Your milage may vary...offer void in Wisconsin.
