You will find the in-out options for MIDI under the Multimedia entry in your control panel. If the game port you are connected to is (for example) part of a SoundBlaster sound card then the entry for the MIDI port under the MIDI tab will read something like SB Live! MIDI out. IF the entry is there then you can choose it as the default MIDI output. Some software will use that entry when it goes to output data. Others will have a preferences/options area where you tell it what to use for the output port. There is a lot of MIDI software available on the internet for playing MIDI files and any of those should play your VF-1 mid update files. Roland has such a program on its web site for just this use.
