The as far as guitar is concerned, the VF-1 is pretty much the same beast minus a few things like overdrive and distortion effects. The VF-1 has some of them, but they're in the same group as the amp sims and therefore can't be used along with an amp sim :^(. Another is that the VF-1 doesn't have cabinet sims. It's like the GT3 in that respect. There's a few other effects the GT5 has that the VF-1 doesn't, but I can't think of them right now. The VF-1, however, has a lot of neat tricks for home studio applications like a large diaphragm mic sim and studio monitor speaker sims, graphic eq, exciter, etc... I used to have a GT3. I traded it for the VF-1 and bought a Line6 POD (I already had a POD foot controller). Now I have the best of both. Incidentally, If I were you I'd sell the GT5 and buy a GT6 when they come out next month. According to the Roland rep I spoke with at the NAMM show, the GT6 flat out smokes anything the GT5/3 does due to a much faster processor. They said the sound quality and realism rivals or exceeds the POD. The GT6 will sell for about the same as the GT3 did, so I'm sure the GT5/3 will be obsolete. Tim
