I have used the VF-1 successfully as you describe. In the series effects loop, I had to tweak to get the compressor/limiter to function properly due to the levels. I used it with a Rivera M100, M60 and an Egnater TOL-100. If you bypass the amp models and eq, the tone is transparent. It may seem a waste of the TOL preamp, but I would encourage you to experiment with the VF-1 amp models and effects by running your guitar into the VF-1 front panel input and then the mono output of the VF-1 into your series loop return. I always ended up using it this way and liked the result better. I'm looking at getting one of these to run in my series loop for my amp. Can i bypass the preamp for just FX. Also is it fairly transparent and won't destroy my tone?
