I can't bulk dump my banks successfully to VF-1 Editor . . .

. . . everytime I do so (that is: everytime I click on Receive, and the window comes up telling me to the Dump Page and select Patch (which I do), the "Bytes Received" always stop at 83256-quite a bit short of the 118170 expected. The "Load" button doesn't even bother to undim for me.

I have used MIDI-OX, in order to be able to record a complete, comprehensive SysEx file (not like the piecemeal approach that Cubase 6 records them (my sequencer). I tried to Dump a single patch into a file, so that I could try loading to VF-1 Editor through that route. When I do that, I get a file that is 423 bytes large, and when I try to load into VF-1 Editor, it tells me that the file is too small.

So what am I doing wrong? Or is it something that I'm not yet aware of that's standing in my way. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

. . . Ok, so it seemed to me that, before I wrote my last post, I had read another post wherein Ryan was talking about different sizes between the SysEx dumps between firmware 1.10 (which I have), and 1.12 and 1.13 (which he built the Editor for, and with which his Dump features work fine. Jeremias even chimes in, during that discussion saying that he had the exact same problem that I now have.

So it seems like it should be a simple enough task to flash my VF-1 with the new firmware, except . . . : I have read some of the Horror Stories of some of the people in this group that have COMPLETELY LOST their VF-1 to what they thought would be a simple Firmware Flash.

So . . . what is the best way to do this Flash? I've had this VF-1 for 14 years, and I REALLY don't want to lose it. And, at the same time, I would like to gain some functionality through loading up all the patches into the Editor.

The real-time editing functions, btw, are working fine, and I can already see how the Editor already opens up a different world for my VF-1. Thanks again, Ryan.

I was able to successfully update the Firmware to 1.12, though a checksum notification did come up at the end of the 14th SysEx file (checksum: 8042). It didn't say it was an error, and it doesn't seem to have affected the functions of the unit in anyway, so it looks like I'm safe.

Glad to hear you figured out the issue and got your firmware updated! Sorry for the hassle, but obviously I could only realistically code the editor against the specs of the VF-1 version that I had access to. It was the extra patch slots (4 I think?) they added to the later firmware revisions that made the bulk dumps larger.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
