Has anyone in this group ever used a Roland S750 or S760 sampler (18mB) ?
(completing my keyboardmusic gear, a jv-880 synth and a gr 30 git.synth and
Cubase)

I'm considering buying one for 500 euro, it comes with 9 sample cd (titles
like: solo strings, symph orchestra, prosonus rs-1, foundations, percussion
and so on).

It's not really a VF-1 "core bizznizz" question.

Any advise is welcome.

greetings,

Sjaak

I have the Roland S-760 and its sound iqulaity s excellent. I think
you'll be pleased. It's limited to a maximum polyphony of 32 megs
though. I fly samples into it via ReCycle. Its A/D and D/A converters
are excellent IMO.

Thanks, but......

Joe, few more questions, I'm not very familiar whit Recycle,so: do I still
need a SCSI cd-rom drive to upload my samples from the roland cd's ??
Or do you transfer the samples on 1.44 Mb floppy disks into the S-750
(that's the one I maybe gonna buy), my problem is thath the guy's at the
music store think that you only can upload samples from the cd rom's using a
SCSI cd-rom drive/connection.

And I haven't got a SCSI.....

Okay, Fred first your patches, I have to say a few things:
- I almost do not use the VF-1 as a stand alone unit for my guitar (I really
don't like the "unclean/overdrive" preampsims, instead I use a Roland gp-100
and a ADA mp-1 tube preamp, sometimes the vf-1 comes along to add some
effects or eq.).
- I've tried most your patches but the gp-100 is a far better machine for
home recording.
- I own a musicman 112 RD guitar amplifier, it has no send returns, plugging
the vf direct in the music man is okay for the clean effects and
speakersim's, I really don't like the heavier preamp sims.
We probably both agree that the vf-1 should be in the send return path of an
amplifier for best results, have never done this so I can't comment on your
patches. Your patches were helpfull as a starting point for some more
tweaking and discovering the vf-s capacities for guitar, but I really don't
use the vf-1 a lot for my guitar (anymore) as a stand alone unit, I use it
as a multi effect machine for all my gear and I make most of my settings
"during the proces".

I think I'm trying to say that the VF is a nice machine for guitar, but the
gp-100 is better so I use the VF-1 in a different way as you are doing,
can't really help you whit guitar patches................., guitar patch
tweaking is mainly done here on my GP.....not on my VF.........

Sjazk,

I don't have the S-750. But I think it should have the same capabilities
of the S-760, maybe more.

There should be a SCSI port built into the S-750. You're al set. You can
import sample via a floppy drive but that would be unbearable slow.. The
price of a CD-ROM player/burner has got to be acceptable. I use an
Iomega Jazz drive to store my own samples and unique set ups. ReCycle
allows you to take sampled percussion loops from your computer, analyze
them into sections, break them apart and send to your sampler (S-750,
etc.) and then play back that sample, controlled by MIDI, thus allowing
MIDI control of the loops tempo, the substitute of individual components
of the loops sounds and other manipulations. ReCycle also provides the
software for SCSI or MIDI transfer of samples back and forth between the
computer and the S-750 (or other brand sampler).
