Urgent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Urgent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2005-11-07 by dannyanbouba

Hi,

I have encountered a problem that i don't know how to get out of. I
downloaded the "UpdSMF" upload from the net, as well as the new
versions of the VF-1. I followed the procedure of pressing the WRITE
and LEFT Parameter button while turning on the VF-1, getting the
message "Flash Update". However, in the middle of copying the midi
files from the computer to the VF, the screem shows message "Flash
Chksum Err". After finishing the progress of the upload, the unit
stays the same, not prompting me to restart it. I turned it off and
tried several times, encontering the same problem every time. Does
anyone know where the problem could be from and/or what the solution
is.
Thank you.

Hi there,

The only thing I can think of at the moment is to try the update again.
Or did you do that already ?
But I really can't say if this will help, or maybe even damage the Boss
(wich I really don't know but don't think it can do much harm, but I am
not a midi-nerd-techie).

Maybe try from another computer.
What midi interface are you using ?

It's too long ago since I did the update to rembeber-know the exact
procedure.
But I do remember vaquely you could do the the update with a player
Boss provided.
I think that's what you have tried, the UPDsmf thing.

Did you connect both midi in and out, don't know if this was
recomended-necessary though.

But if i remember oke there also should be a possibility to do the
update playing the (midi ?) files in a sequencer like Cubase or Sonar.
In that case it could be helpfull to set the BPM to a lower value as
120, something like 80.
And make sure the VF-1 is connected straight with the computer, no other
midi devices in between.

I did not check anything of the above things on the Internet, I am just
typing what I can remember at the moment.
Give us an URL from the site you dowloaded the files so I can take a
look there (much) later today, I am going to bed, it's 03.00 at the moment.

Succes,

Sjaak

Ah, very nice that you got it sorted out.
You can upload patches in syx. format using Cakewalk I suppose.

But I can recommend Midi Ox also.

First make a back-up of your own patches though.
