build a expressionpedal +midi versus analog

build a expressionpedal +midi versus analog

2006-01-07 by zoolguy

Hello everbody,

I am busy to make build my own expressionpedal.
Is there anybody allready did that?
Any hints or tips?

And..........

I used midi from the computer-sequenser to control
the VF-1 but it sounds awful because your hear the
127 steps of midi.
I think that with a expressionpedal without midi (so, analog)
you get a linear control of volume, pitch, etc.
that is a big different and sounds a lot more professional.

Any reactions I this?

thanks!

Marcel from the netherlands, Amsterdam

Hi Zoolguy...

Are you sure you can hear the 127 steps? On wich effect you can hear it?

Why don't you buy an used one expression pedal? Even a new one isn't so
expensive...

(sorry about my English)..

Actually I think I have a "schematic" of the Boss expression pedal
somewhere. It's basically a pot connected to to a jack. :) I was
thinking about building one too, but I am actually not sure about the
physical mechanics of building a pedal with a sweep... seems that's
the more complicated part than the actual electronics in this case.
I'd love any info you may have on how to build the pedal mechanism,
itself.

Here's the link for the schematic for the Roland EV-5 pedal:
