Hey, don't apologize for asking questions! That's what we're all here for. So you've set the sequencer step values to zero. Doesn't matter that they're set to zero, because you've turned the Destinations to OFF for tracks 1-4, right? Also doesn't matter that there's a rest on step 5. Now you're wondering why the Evolver makes sounds when you hit the sequencer start button? That's easy. Each step in the sequencer triggers the envelopes (except steps that are programmed OFF for rests). When the envelopes are triggered, it's just as if you'd hit a key on a MIDI keyboard connected to your Evolver. Perfectly normal behavior. One other sequencer related item... In addition to the 4 sequencer destinations (for which any modulation destination can be chosen), the sequencer can also control the selected waveshape of the two digital oscillators. Look in the lower half of row 2, columns 3 and 7, for the "Shape Seq" parameter. Have fun!
