I *think* I had a similar dilema(i've got PCR-50 midi controller, usb 
audiophile, and evo)and solved it this way:
Midi controller connected to PC via USB
Digi-out to Evo in
Digi-in to Evo out
The *trick* is to then download and install the great Midi-Ox 
program.  Set it up to send incoming midi messages from your midi 
controller to the Digi's output. It's a piece of cake to configure. 
This will solve your problem but your computer will need to be "on" 
and midi-ox running in order play the evo with your midi controller. 
I should also recieve and send midi messages with no problems. Not a 
bad trade-off since the alternative is adding more potentially 
conflicting hardware to your set-up. Sweet and simple.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
