Well email dave and tell him your gonna switch the button yourself. I'd be really surprised if he doesn't back you up on it and would probably still hold the warranty valid as long as you don't do anything obviously stupid. Assuming you don't just randomly poke at things with the solder, i doubt you'd do too much damage switching one switch.
