Story about the button caps - my first Evolver had an "accident" that I first thought was intentional. Those little black button caps basically snap on to their posts, and on my unit, the first button in the parameter matrix (row 1) was raised up higher than all the rest. I figured this was done on purpose, so as to be able to find Row 1 quickly just by feeling instead of looking, like the raised bumps on a computer keyboard or number pad. But when I switched my board out with a new one, I noticed that all the buttons were the same height. I looked again at my old board and gave the Row 1 button a harder- than-normal push and the button cap snapped on to the post all the way, like it should have been in the first place. Anyway, the long story was to bring me to this: if you feel like messing with it yourself, pull the button cap off (you'll have to remove the board first of course) and take a look underneath to see if there is something that can be cleaned. I don't know if there is or not because I didn't look at mine that closely...but perhaps it's just a bad contact, and a q-tip will be easier than a soldering iron.
