They are encoders and most, if not all, will be smooth, not detented, which will hopefully not be problematic.
While we are on the subject, what size are the knobs, especially in comparison to the Evolver and Rack PolyEvolver? Kinda hard to tell from posted pictures, but I am guessing/hoping they are slightly larger?
