My current recording setup is a Boss BR864 MTR, a Yamaha Motif ES6 workstation and (just added) a mono Evolver. I've come across a problem. If I connect the rig like this: MTR MIDI out --> Motif MIDI in, Motif MIDI out --> Evolver MIDI in when I set the Motif to slave to the MTR's MIDI clock/SPP, the Motif will not pass clock/SPP to the Evolver. It will pass sequencer start/stop/continue commands though!!?? If I set the Motif to slave to the MTR's MTC then the Motif does pass clock/SPP to the Evolver but while the Motif responds to start/stop/continue sent by the MTR only the sequencer stop commands are passed along to the Evolver!!?? I also have to set up identical tempo maps in both the Motif sequencer and MTR or the two get out of synch (MTC passes only raw time, no MIDI clock information). I'd rather use MIDI clock to avoid the hassles with setting up two tempo maps and be able to control both sequencers from the transport controls of the MTR so I thought about using a MIDI merger: MTR MIDI out --> Motif MIDI in, Motif MIDI out --> Merger in #1, Motif MIDI thru --> Merger in #2, Merger out --> Evolver MIDI in Since merger input #1 gets the note, CC and program change msgs from the Motif sequencer and merger input #2 sees clock, SPP and start/stop/continue from the MTR the Evolver gets everything. Anyone tried this sort of merger application and gotten it to work OK? I'd rather not waste $75 on a merger if it won't do what I want.
