In regard to connecting your Evolver to a computer via midi, there are many midi programs that you could use your evolver with. Mainly there are software sequencers. The top of the crop (and most expensive) are Logic, Sonar and Cubase. There are however many less expensive midi sequencers and even some that are free. CHeck out Harmony Central or the archives of SOund On Sound and run a search for "midi sequencer" and you should find lots of examples. With the evoler and a midi sequencer you should be able to load and unload sysex program data to back up your Evolver patches. Other than that you will be able to sequence your evolver from the software sequencer. Since your Evolver is monophonic, you will be able to have it sequenced from a single "track" on a sequencer. Also the Evolver is does not transmit its sequences over midi so you cannot use it as a source for the midi notes that you might put into a sequencer. Therefore you will need a midi keyboard (the same type you may be using to controll your evolver directly) in this way Keyboard -> Computer -> Evolver, you can both "play" the Evolver and record the midi events in your sequencer, edit those midi recordings, and then use the sequencer to play your evolver back for you.

Other than a midi sequencer, another type of midi program is a libriarian/editor such as Emagic's SOunddiver . Sounddiver allows one to save and organize your presets from the Evolver (and practically any synth) and currently there is a module available at the Evolver webpage that allows you to use Sounddiver to program your Evolver's patches using the computer screen rather than the Evolver itself.

That's about it. IF you don't need to program Evolver from a Computer (I find it pretty easy to do from itself actually) then a basic midi sequencer will allow you to save and reload presets and allow you do do simple sequencing.
